As if Yahoo didn’t make enough news on Monday with a blockbuster $1.1 billion acquisition of blogging and photo-sharing site Tumblr, the Internet pioneer also said it had leased office space in New York’s Times Square and unveiled a revamp of photo-sharing service Flickr.
I REALLY like what Marissa Mayer is doing over at Yahoo. They have released a sexy free weather app for iPhone. They bought the blogging service that powers my blog. Now they have started to return Flickr to its former glory; today’s redesign looks quite nice based on a quick lookover.
I thought Jerry Yang had signed Yahoo’s death certificate after the Microsoft deal failed. But Microsoft has largely failed on the web, so it was probably a better idea to poach a smart-but-neglected Google employee to turn the ship around.
As global capital becomes ever more powerful, giant corporations are holding governments and citizens up for ransom — eliciting subsidies and tax breaks from countries concerned about their nation’s “competitiveness” — while sheltering their profits in the lowest-tax jurisdictions they can find….
There are already more Android users than Windows users and by the end of 2013, it is probable that there will be more iOS users than Windows users too. If so, by the end of this year, Windows will be only the third most popular computer OS in the world.
